Performances

Costumes for the Performance - 25th June at 2pm

PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING

Years 3 & 4

Years 3 and 4 have been learning about music in the 80's. For your performance, choose some 80's style clothing, remembering that the weather may be quite cool in June. Please think carefully about your shoes - you need to be able to jump and dance safely. Ensure you bring your clothes to school in a separate bag with your name on it. There are over 100 children performing and getting changed on the day so ensure that your clothes have your name on them. Remember to take care of your belongings. YOU are responsible for any clothing or accessories you bring in on the day

Years 5 & 6

You are seasoned professionals at this process!
Years 5 and 6 have chosen to perform the 'Grease Megamix'. Costumes for the girls are the same style as they wore for last years 50's performance, with colourful swirling skirts, funky hair/neck scarves and converse style shoes (they don't have to be 'Converse' brand of course!) Please wear tights under your skirts so that they can flare when you spin.

For the boys, wear 'Danny' style clothes with an old shirt over the top that you can spin and throw. You will need an additional jacket, cardigan or collared shirt (that you wear for the duration of the performance) which you can use to flip the shoulders of during the 'Grease Lightening' song. Jeans and converse style shoes will work well. Remember you will be throwing your shirt so PUT YOUR NAME ON IT - there will be around 60 shirts flying through the air, you will need to be able to find yours at the end! Don't throw any leather jackets. The girls will grab your shirt as they skip off and you will find it at the end - first and last names please. If you want to wear a hat, make sure it will firmly stay on your head the whole time.

For the Pink Ladies - you need your pink jackets
For the T-Birds - you need to wear black where possible - If you have a comb at home that you can put in your pocket for 'cool hair' combing during the performance, please bring that in too.

Some things we learnt from last year:
1. No high heels - you will twist your ankle and they fall off when you walk. SAFE shoes only.
2. When you are changing your jeans, you need to take your shoes off first or your feet will get stuck. Last year there was some feet rescuing jean cutting involved...
3. NAME ON EVERYTHING. Be aware of what you bring and come and look for any lost items in the music room the next day.
4. You will be dressing yourself. Don't rely on mum to come in and help you because you will be getting changed at different times during the day.
5. Girls, you don't need makeup. It is a 6 minute school performance not a weekend dance spectacular. You are naturally beautiful- we want to see you shine not your lipstick!

Best of luck and happy singing and dancing

Grease

Scenes from Grease to help with the mega-mix. Year 5 and 6 you may choose to dress in 'Grease Style' clothing using your costumes from the 50's dance last year or you may choose 80's style costumes based on your class dance.

Year 6B - Remember you need to have BLACK and/or WHITE under your Grease costume for your class performance to make sense.

Guest Guitarist - Hayden

Year 3 were lucky enough to have Mia's cousin, Hayden, visit their music class. Thank you Mia, that is one incredibly talented cousin you have there! Hayden taught year 3 all about making and playing guitars and was kind enough to leave them a little gift to encourage their guitar playing skills. Here is a clip of Hayden from You Tube (you'll love his sweater). Perhaps Mia could twist his arm and convince him to visit us again soon!

Planning Our Performance - Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

After some long and very exciting discussions, it has been decided that we will have an 80's - early 90's theme for our performance this year. Children in stage 3 will also be involved in a 'Grease Mega-mix'. So start raiding your mum's wardrobe for brightly patterned clothes, shoulder pads, leg warmers and 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' style pants because we are going back to the 80's. We will be choosing songs that made an impact at the time due to the message that the artist was trying to portray. The 80's was all about pop, rock, electronic music and hip-hop. There was great change happening across the globe in peoples attitudes and access to opportunities, and this is reflected in the music of the time. Think about the message that some of these artists were sending:
